Writing words with q and x

Almost all of these words are nouns, and the majority of them are loanwords. They are, however, all considered naturalised in English by at least one major dictionary (see References), owing to the fact that they sometimes refer to words or social positions that have no accurate English counterpart. Words must have their own entry in a dictionary to appear here; words that appear only as part of a longer term are not included.
Furthermore, many place and personal names with a q without an u, often from North Africa, the Middle East, or China, have a q without a u. The countries of Iraq and Qatar, as well as the derived terms Iraqi and Qatari, are the most well-known of these. Iqaluit, the capital of Canada’s Nunavut territory, also has a q that isn’t immediately preceded by a u. Greenlandic villages Qaqortoq and Qeqertarsuaq are notable for having three naked qs. Compaq (a computer company), Qantas (an Australian airline), Nasdaq (the US electronic stock market), and QinetiQ are among the other proper names and acronyms that have become English words (a British technology company). The proper nouns Zaqqum (a tree mentioned in the Qur’an) and Saqqara are notable for their double q. The nouns in this list, on the other hand, are common nouns. Words starting with x

Macaroni and cheese are a popular combination. Rocky and Bullwinkle are two characters from the Rocky and Bullwinkle series. Hall and Oates is a comedy duo. The same can be said for two English alphabet letters: Q and U. Anyone who has ever taken a spelling class will recall their teacher advising them that the Q must always be preceded by a U in English. That, however, does not seem to be the case. In fact, there are dozens of English words that begin with a Q and end with a U. Scrabble players know this better than anyone else.
Some of the vocabulary have been taken from other languages. Arabic and Hebrew are two of the most common sources, as the Q is often used in English to represent the more guttural “K” sound found in those languages. We owe terms like “burqa,” a full-body covering worn by some Muslim women, and “sheqel,” Israel’s currency, to those languages. Q-without-U words, on the other hand, are found all over the world, from Mandarin to Inuit to Zulu. A few of them are also “homegrown” English terms that have been given a modern twist. Since they’re all in the English dictionary, they’re legal in Scrabble. Here’s a list of English words where the letter Q stands alone.
