I recall learning about dramaturgy for the first time. My friend was dramaturging a production of Dancing at Lughnasa, and he is mainly a lighting designer. I was totally absorbed as she explained her process. She looked at the play from a literary and performance viewpoint, but she also looked into the social, political, cultural, and historical contexts in which it was set. She was able to help me realize how truly rich the play was because of her multidimensional interpretation of the dramatic content.
Inspired by this encounter, I started my own research into dramaturgy, quickly finding that it was a great fit for my personality.
