Episode 23 – tabletop rpgs: character study
The Ewells are well conscious that they are the lowest of the whites in Maycomb. They lack capital, education, and breeding stock. The fact that they are white is the only thing that elevates them in the society at any stage. Bob and Mayella, like most people in similar circumstances, want to improve their lot in life. Mayella, on the other hand, lacks the means to change her own life because Bob is unable to put in the effort needed to better his family’s condition.
Mayella becomes a pregnant wife for her father and mother for her younger siblings after her mother passes away. Mayella’s desire for a better life is shown by the red geraniums she so lovingly grows — they’re the only sign of beauty in a dingy, dirty shack and yard. She can’t go to school because she has to look after her younger siblings, particularly when her father goes on drinking binges for days at a time. She’s in an incestuous and violent relationship and has nowhere to turn or someone who can support her. Her future is set at the age of 19. She’ll still stay with her family, where she’ll be sexually and physically exploited before she marries and begins the cycle all over again.

Hector Zeroni is Zero’s real name, but he has been known as Zero for much of his life. He’s been homeless for the majority of his life, and his mother abandoned (or lost) him when he was young. Zero has had no formal schooling and is unable to read or write. Despite all that has happened to him, Zero recognizes that he is intelligent and capable of standing up for himself. He seems to be an odd character at first because he barely talks and often walks around with a scowl on his face. When Zero becomes friends with Stanley, the reader discovers that Zero stays quiet because he dislikes answering questions and is afraid of people like Mr. Pendanski, who continuously mock him. Zero has been through so much adversity in his life that he can no longer bear Camp Green Lake and flees. He has a generous heart, as shown by the fact that after Stanley has run away, he shares his last jar of “sploosh” with him. Zero starts to speak more and scowl less as Stanley gains confidence. Zero is also very straightforward, and while he steals because he lives on the street, he tends to steal items that aren’t as important so that people don’t notice. The shoes that Stanley was accused of stealing were actually stolen by Zero, who feels bad for Stanley and apologizes for stealing them.

The transformation or inner journey of a character over the course of a story is known as a character arc. If a novel has a character arc, the protagonist starts as one type of person and eventually evolves into a different type of person as the story progresses. The geometric term arc is often used to characterize the sweeping transition since it is often substantive and leads from one personality trait to the diametrically opposite trait (for example, from greed to benevolence). Character arcs are more likely to occur in lead characters and protagonists in most stories, while minor characters also shift as well. 1st Many stories’ plots are guided by the main character’s inability to conquer competing forces at first, likely due to a lack of expertise, experience, money, or friends. To resolve such challenges, the protagonist must evolve, probably through the acquisition of new skills, in order to achieve a greater sense of self-awareness or capability. Main characters can gain self-awareness by engaging with their surroundings, enlisting the aid of mentors, shifting their perspective, or using some other form.
