The testes, also known as testicles or male gonads, are located behind the penis in the scrotum, a pouch of skin.
The testes are free to move about in the scrotum, but they are bound to the body wall by a thin cord called the spermatic cord, which runs through a cavity in the pelvis and through the abdomen.
The cord houses the testes’ nerves and blood vessels, as well as the vas deferens, which transfers sperm from the testes to the urethra (the urethra is the passageway for sperm to leave the body during ejaculation).
The testes are situated outside the body and are held at a temperature that is around two degrees Celsius lower than the body’s core temperature.
This is because at this lower temperature, sperm production and quality are at their best.

The uterus is superior to (above) and anterior to (in front of) the rectum. The rectum is posterior to (behind) and inferior to (below) the uterus, which is another way of describing the same positions. 3.3 SAQ (tests Learning Outcomes 3.2 and 3.3) What structures are removed during female genital mutilation, and how can this affect a woman during labor and delivery?

The anterior, intermediate, and posterior lobes of the pituitary gland are divided into three lobes in most species (also called the neurohypophysis or pars nervosa). The intermediate lobe does not function as a separate anatomic entity in humans, but rather as a set of cells scattered across the anterior lobe. Despite this, the pituitary’s anterior and posterior lobes are functionally, anatomically, and embryologically separate. The anterior pituitary includes several hormone-secreting epithelial cells, while the posterior pituitary is mainly made up of unmyelinated (non-insulated) secretory neurons.
Rathke’s pouch, an outpouching of the roof of the pharynx, is where the cells of the anterior pituitary are derived embryologically. Under a light microscope, the cells appear to be relatively homogeneous, but there are at least five distinct types of cells, each secreting a different hormone or hormones. Thyrotropin (thyroid-stimulating hormone; TSH) is synthesized and secreted by thyrotrophs; gonadotrophs secrete both luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH); corticotrophs secrete adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH; corticotropin); somatotrophs secrete growth hormone (GH; somatotropin); and lactotrophs cell of the gonadotroph Gonadotroph cells (shown with arrows) make up about 10% of the pituitary gland and secrete gonadotropin hormones including luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) (FSH).
