The D’Amour Library, which first opened its doors in 1983 and was enlarged in 2005, provides a supportive place for learning and community and individual study. The library has a collection of over 122,000 books, journals, and media volumes, as well as electronic databases and subscriptions that provide access to over 61,000 periodical and monographic titles. The library has 128 public computers situated in the building’s three floors that provide access to the Internet and a range of software applications, in addition to its collections of materials that support the University’s curricula. The wireless network on campus is available in the library. There are a variety of individual research rooms as well as a number of group rooms for joint projects. Throughout the year, students have access to a late-night computer lab and research area on the lower floor.
Via its website at http://libraries.wne.edu, the library offers on-campus and off-campus links to its online collection, WILDPAC, as well as its other web-based tools. WILDPAC provides connections to many other online library catalogs in the city, as well as the collections of both campus libraries, the D’Amour Library and the Law Library. JSTOR, Project Muse, MarketResearch Academic, Compendex, Embase, Lexicomp Academic, and other databases from EBSCOhost and Gale Cengage are among the other resources accessible via the library’s website. The full text of indexed materials is available in each of these online knowledge resources. Articles from the databases and other online resources can be printed at one of the seven network printers in the library. Off-campus access to many of the online databases is restricted to Western New England University students and faculty.

Western New England University is a Springfield, Massachusetts-based private university. The College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Engineering, School of Law, and College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences all offer academic programs.
On July 1, 2011, the institution officially changed its name from Western New England College to Western New England University to reflect its master’s and doctoral programs. This was the 60th anniversary of the school’s separation from Northeastern University, and it marked the return of the word “university” to its name. It had been listed as a university for quite some time.
Northeastern College’s Springfield Division, also known as Springfield-Northeastern, was established in 1919. Evening classes in law, business, and accounting were held in the YMCA building on Chestnut Street in Springfield for part-time students. The school’s foundation stone was laid in 1922.
Western New England College was established in 1951 by the Springfield Division of Northeastern University. On July 17, 1951, the college was created. The new Wilbraham Road campus was acquired on April 26, 1956, for 34 acres (140,000 m2). The first day program, in engineering, began the same year, with 53 students enrolled. The first structure, known as East Building before being renamed Emerson Hall in honor of the college’s first trustee chairman, was completed in 1959.

The Association of College & Research Libraries’ official newsmagazine and publication of record, College & Research Libraries News (C&RL News), features reporting on the current developments and activities impacting academic and research libraries.
We were tasked with transferring all content on the library’s website from one platform to another over the course of a summer when Western New England University revealed its plan to turn over its entire website from a legacy homegrown framework to a brand new CMS. We decided to make our content conform to a strict new design scheme, but we also wanted to take full advantage of the change and use it to improve our content for our students.
