I treat fatigue on a daily basis in my naturopathic practice. No one enjoys being exhausted and out of commission, and a month-long adrenal regimen will always help people get back on their feet and over the hump. Here are three supplements that I believe are effective in combating fatigue. Dr. Wilson was the first to recognize this combination, but after 13 years of experience with a variety of protocols, I still believe it is the most effective for adrenal fatigue:
Licorice is well-known for its many health benefits, including the treatment of immune disorders, mood disorders, and digestive problems, but it is also one of the most well-known herbs for the treatment of adrenal exhaustion. Licorice helps the adrenal glands by preventing the breakdown of cortisol, a major stress hormone released by the adrenal glands. Its cortisol-sparing properties aid in the maintenance of energy levels, resulting in a stronger reaction to stressful conditions. Licorice is also an excellent herbal for promoting and preserving liver function, as well as increasing energy production. Licorice’s moderate estrogenic capacity helps it overcome PMS symptoms including breast tenderness, irritability, and bloating. Is there anybody who can avoid taking Licorice? Yes, absolutely. If you have high blood pressure, taking licorice can be dangerous because the cortisol sparing effect can raise blood pressure in certain individuals. Those who are predisposed to breast cancer, especially estrogen dominant breast cancers, should also avoid it.

My patients come to me with several different health problems, but the most common one by far is exhaustion. I see the epidemic of intense fatigue on a daily basis, when my patients tell me how they wake up feeling tired and rely on caffeine to keep them awake during the day. They’re irritable and “hangry” (hunger that makes you angry), and they’re craving salty or sweet things, or both. Despite dieting and exercise, they have difficulty losing weight and have little or no sex drive. Their energy levels drop in the afternoon, but they frequently get a “second wind” before bed and find it difficult to wind down or sleep soundly, perpetuating the cycle.
Unfortunately, many people believe that this is just how people feel and that it is natural because everyone else seems to be feeling the same way. However, just because something is standard does not mean it is acceptable. It’s not normal to be exhausted all of the time. In reality, it is one of the primary symptoms of adrenal fatigue.
Like little kidney baseball caps, the adrenal glands rest on top of your kidneys. They regulate a variety of important hormonal functions in your body, but one of their most important responsibilities is to control the release of cortisol, your main stress hormone. Cortisol is a hormone that is required for survival.

Vitamin D, also known as the “sunshine vitamin,” is important for proper body function. One of the most important advantages of vitamin D is the development of solid bones. Supplementation of vitamin D has largely removed rickets as a childhood condition. Low vitamin D levels have recently been linked to a variety of illnesses. Similarly, adequate levels of the vitamin have been linked to improvements in a variety of conditions.
The percent of people with low vitamin D levels in the country is estimated to be from 30 percent to 95 percent . These figures are based on the person’s age and where they live. Vitamin D deficiency affects three out of every four pregnant women. Vitamin D is a vital nutrient, and not getting enough of it can lead to health problems later in life for these developing babies.
You’re not getting enough vitamin D in your diet. The amount of people who don’t get enough vitamin D from their diet is on the rise. Egg yolks, fish, fish oil, and beef liver are all natural sources of vitamin D. Fortified foods like milk and yogurt also contain vitamin D. However, since most foods only contain trace amounts of vitamin D, getting enough from food alone is nearly impossible.
