The current 140,000-square-foot Van Sickle Middle School/High School building was renovated and extended by 79,000 square feet to accommodate a modern middle school program for 1,200 students.
The original structure’s historical value was maintained by renovation work and improved through the addition of architecturally appropriate additions. A 300-student alternative high school was renovated in a 61,000-square-foot wing of the main structure, which was built in 1968. The new additions provided architectural continuity between the original three-story building’s schoolhouse classicism and the 1968 addition’s modern functionalism aesthetic. The required scale and level of architectural detailing were created by new infill construction to link what had previously been an abrupt transition between the dissimilar wings of the existing building.

Do not send your child here if you have a preference. This is the school where I enrolled my daughter. She was accepted into a charter school the same week, and I decided to send her there instead. Three months later, the principal called to inquire about my daughter’s whereabouts. When I asked him what happens if a child does not show up for school, he said he just needs to know where my daughter is so he can remove her from his records. He also threatened to contact DCF if I did not tell him where my daughter was. I told him to go ahead and clarify their policy and procedure for when students are absent while he was at it. utter nonsense!!! Maybe it’s been three months. Is your child still alive? Yeah, we just found out 3 months back.
