Education at the Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School is the start of a lifelong journey of discovery. Mr. Sagrin is a Blackboard instructor. We are dedicated to providing a comprehensive classical education to our students in order to prepare them for the most demanding high schools and colleges. Our curriculum completely combines the fine and practical arts with the sciences, mathematics, literature, and the study of our cultural heritage – from its foundations in myth and legend to the study of modern history – to meet students at every stage of their growth. The Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School aspires to help children achieve a balanced development of clear and precise thought, a rich and stable emotional life, and a developed willpower. This will allow children to relate their ideas, emotions, and behavior to real-world problems in a responsible manner. To accomplish this, each instructor works artistically with a curriculum that incorporates the arts, humanities, and sciences in a way that is consistent with Rudolf Steiner’s human developmental stages. Teachers will create lessons that enliven students’ imaginations and improve their ability to shape moral relationships with the world through recognizing these developmental criteria.

We had our son here for Nursery and Kindergarten, which was a fantastic, fun experience for him. He was able to get plenty of play and outdoor, nature time. But, due to the school’s age, we had to switch schools before first grade. They regularly crowd 20-25 students into a class with ONE teacher, which is unacceptably high for a private school. Furthermore, there are no services available if a child requires additional assistance, so they are forced to stay in the classroom and disrupt the learning of the other students.
Divide the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers to get the student/teacher ratio. Please keep in mind that a lower student-to-teacher ratio does not always imply a smaller class size. Schools occasionally employ part-time teachers, and some teachers are hired for specialized teaching with limited class sizes. The student-to-teacher ratio is determined by these and other factors. Pre-Kindergarten may not be included of the student/teacher ratio in private schools.
GREAT BARRINGTON, ONTARIO — More than 1,000 schools and kindergartens around the world, including the Berkshire Waldorf School in Great Barrington, have followed the Waldorf approach to learning a century after the first Waldorf school opened in Stuttgart, Germany.
The main school building houses students from kindergarten through eighth grade, while the Betty Szold Krainis Childhood Building, situated directly across the street, houses kindergarten classrooms and a nursery.
The end of August means getting ready for another school year for Christi Nordoff, chair of the school’s early childhood department and a Waldorf alumna. With the addition of a new nursery class this fall, some of the school’s youngest Waldorf students will be able to attend. For children aged two and a half to three and a half years old, a two-day-a-week program will be added to the current three- and five-day-a-week services.
Nordoff explained, “At the moment, the Rudolf Steiner School only had a five-day program.” “I wasn’t ready to be away from her for five days a week, so we sent her to a two-day program,” says the mother.
Circus Smirkus Wilderness Wonders: Outdoor Adventures under the Big Top has selected the Great Barrignton Rudolf Steiner School as a presenter. We aim to bring families together for a safe, creative, and entertaining show. It is our hope that, with the aid of Circus Smirkus, we will be able to not only entertain families, but also cultivate the idea that it is vital to grow the free human being – one with imaginative minds, warm hearts, a passion for work, and a joyful spirit.
