p> p> St. John the Evangelist Parish, or simply St. John’s, was established in 1881, the year Wellesley broke away from Needham. The church, which is led by the Rev. Thomas F. Powers, is Wellesley’s oldest religious structure. The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) of the church is responsible for assisting the pastor in preparing, arranging, implementing, encouraging, coordinating, and updating the parish’s evangelization, worship, religious education, and service activities. The pastor and pastoral partner, as well as 12 or more elected and appointed lay members, make up the PPC. The church also operates a school on Ledyard Lane, the St. John School, which educates children from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade and sponsors Boy Scout Troop 185. For more information about the church, go to the website. / p>

As you are aware, until further notice, the Cardinal has temporarily suspended all regular and Sunday Masses and religious services in the Archdiocese of Boston. We will be able to open our churches for times of prayer for the Catholic faithful, and we will notify you as soon as we have a timetable. We’re also thinking about how we can stay linked to our faith and each other throughout this trying period. Please subscribe to our email list to receive important announcements, as well as information about faith opportunities and ways we can assist those in our society who are most vulnerable. The St. John-St. Paul Collaborative is canceling or postponing all meetings and non-essential events until further notice, in accordance with Archdiocese of Boston guidelines and guidance from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
In favor of the Commonwealth and the Town of Wellesley’s recommendations, we must also suspend the use of all Collaborative facilities by outside organisations. This covers all of St. Paul Parish, St. John the Evangelist Parish, and Saint John School’s services and houses.

We couldn’t help but sigh when another Lawrence (MA) church closed due to parish mergers. Another beautiful organ was for sale, but it had a slim chance of finding a new home. The imposing 1936 Neo-Gothic granite Sacred Heart RC Church in South Lawrence was designed to serve the French community. A 1936 Casavant, Opus 1531, with three manuals and 33 stops, stood despondently in the back gallery. Despite some water damage, the organ appeared to be in good working order. We’d been maintaining the instrument for a long time and were well aware of its capabilities.
Thankfully, long-time friend Laurence Carson, organist at St. John the Evangelist RC Parish in Wellesley Hills (MA), called and inquired about the organ. The pipe organ was of interest to St. John’s, a large and active parish. A group from St. John’s went to Sacred Heart to see and hear the organ after reviewing the details. They decided it was just what they wanted. A contract was signed, and the organ was transferred to temporary storage by the Andover crew a few weeks later.
