The Saint Jerome School group, founded in 1957 by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and rooted in the proud tradition of Catholic education, inspires students to achieve academic excellence, to keep faith at the core of all they do, and to foster good citizenship through acts of Christian service within and outside our community.
Academic excellence, a strong faith-filled atmosphere, and service as a means of community building are all priorities at Saint Jerome School. We are proud of our students, thankful to their families for allowing us to be a part of their children’s academic and faith growth, and grateful to the parish for their fifty-seven years of support.

Librarian, Ms. Patti Eckert

I’ve been the school librarian since 2002, influenced by my love of reading. Because of my love of reading, I am able to read stories to children and bring the characters from stories to life. The Betsy-Tacy series was my favorite book series as a child. Maud Hart Lovelace is the author of this piece.
Mrs. Maura McEvoy, Art Enrichment volunteer
With my six sisters and one brother, I was born and raised in St. Paul.
I received a secondary education degree from the University of Minnesota, a kindergarten and elementary education diploma from Hamline, and a master’s degree from St. Thomas. Terry and I tied the knot in 1972. We enjoyed traveling back then, and we continue to do so now. We have a daughter and three sons. I come for art about twice a month and get to hang out in the art room with the kids and Mr. B. In both learning and teaching, I enjoy delivering, receiving, and celebrating “aha!” moments.
Ms. Grace Cardinal, Director of the Preschool
I am the Preschool Director at St. Jerome School and a tutor to the school’s youngest lions. I served as an aide for our Kids Korner one summer as a St. Jerome School alum. Before graduating with a major in psychology and a minor in music, I did an internship in a preschool classroom at Washburn Center for Children. I am currently enrolled at St. Catherine University, where I am pursuing a second degree. On weekends, you’ll hear me sing as a cantor and as part of our church’s contemporary choir. We are looking forward to growing closer to Christ in our minds, hearts, and souls in the coming year.

For the past seven years, our family has been a member of the SJS culture. Our children enjoy going to school and are doing well. The values we instill in our children at home are reinforced at school. My husband and I appreciate the fact that middle school students serve as mentors to the younger students. There is a powerful sense of belonging. The children learn academics as well as valuable life skills that they can carry with them throughout their lives. On the South Shore, the school is unquestionably a hidden gem.
We have been very pleased with our son’s education at St. Jerome. It’s amazing how far ahead of his peers in public schools he is. The academics are outstanding, and the small setting is ideal for character development. They recently placed second in the state for lego robotics, outperforming hundreds of other teams. Academics are excellent, there is a sense of community, and it is not excessively costly.
Even though I am not Catholic, I am grateful that our family has found a wonderful home at this wonderful school. SJS is an incredible benefit in addition to its incredible strengths. My son would receive an elementary education at this academy, with benefits comparable to those found at schools costing four times as much. I encourage anyone interested in seeing SJS in person to pay me a visit.
