Prior to Daij Media’s purchase of 980, Univision Radio owned the station. It had a Tejano format and was known as “Super Tejano 980AM KRTX.” It used the call letters KRTX and the name “Super Tejano 980AM KRTX.” The name was later abbreviated to “Tejano 980.” From 1949 until it was sold to Roy Henderson in 1990, when the KMPQ calls were requested because KFRD was transferred to 1090 KACO in Bellville, this station was a country station as KFRD. Henderson sold the station to Tichenor Media (a forerunner of Univision) in 1995. 104.9 KAMA-FM is a radio station that broadcasts in the United States. When both facilities were still owned by the original Fort Bend Broadcasting Company led by Mart Cole, Sr. and both KFRD and KFRD-FM were still licensed to their original COL of Rosenberg, Missouri City, Texas was the original counterpart to 980 as KFRD-FM.
