Professional Pathways High School, founded in 2013, is a New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE) transfer school committed to educating and inspiring students in a non-traditional environment through a customized approach to learning and growth. The school’s goal is to meet students’ academic and social needs by forming strong relationships with all members of the school community, re-engaging students academically through hands-on learning with a focus on post-secondary preparation and literacy, and preparing students for college and careers through computer literacy and job exposure. We will make certain that each student leaves with a specific set of goals and a strategy for achieving post-secondary success.
All members of the school community collaborate with CAMBA, a community-based organization, to build a school culture that supports students mentally, socially, and academically. Our school helps students who have fallen behind in high school and are now at a disadvantage in post-secondary education. We can’t expect students to react differently if they are placed in an atmosphere close to the one they are leaving. As a result, Professional Pathways builds more than a student’s academic foundation; each student learns technical and career competencies that help them succeed in post-secondary education. Professional Pathways often builds on students’ current strengths and abilities when assisting them in navigating the personal and social challenges that they face. Students learn about the world of work through being exposed to a variety of career sectors, and they can use these experiences to further explore sectors through internships, job shadowing, and college and trade school visits. This is beneficial to our students in two ways: 1. As students see the connection between receiving a diploma and their future, they are more likely to remain involved and complete their diploma; 2. We are providing more than just a diploma; we are preparing students for college and careers. Students graduate with the academic and technical skills needed to identify and fulfill their personal vision as a result of our work.
