I May Prepare for Baptism-Primary 2 Lesson 12: The aim of this lesson is to increase your desire to be baptized while also teaching you how to prepare. Thoughts on Teaching Unless otherwise noted, the following are links to LDS.org. Elder Robert D. Hales’ “The Covenant of Baptism: To Be in the Kingdom and of the Kingdom” is a teacher study. President James E. I should also note that I show each child how their father/priesthood holder can place his hands during the prayer, cover his nose, and dip his hands as if he is going under water. It’s enjoyable to practice, and the kids adore it when it’s their turn. You may even have a Priesthood holder come and show you how to do it. I just find it easier to do it myself rather than trying to find someone to come in during that portion of the lesson – do what works best for you.
Prepare 6 big footprints for the “We Should Prepare Now For Baptism” footprint activity at the end of the lesson. I have 12 students this year, and I wanted them all to participate. I decided to make two footprints: one with the question and the other with the picture. The image concept will also work for younger children who are unable to learn.

Show the image of John the Baptist baptizing Jesus that has been covered. Explain to the kids that the photo on the bottom of the paper is of two important people. Ask the kids to try to figure out who the people are, but don’t say something until they’ve seen the whole photo. One by one, have each child remove a piece of paper from the covered illustration.
Tell the story of Jesus Christ’s baptism from Matthew 3:13 to 17. Explain that when Jesus demanded to be baptized, John the Baptist was taken aback. Since John believed Jesus had never sinned, he didn’t believe Jesus needed to be baptized. However, Jesus explained to John that baptism was a commandment from Heavenly Father, and that he had to follow all of Heavenly Father’s commandments.
If a child forgets the answer, move on to the next child until the correct response is given (do not embarrass a child who cannot answer a question). Continue until each child has correctly answered a question, assisting them as required. If required, repeat the questions.

I used this as a reference for my Relief Society lesson today, and it went off without a hitch! There were some fantastic questions that ignited a fascinating debate. This can be difficult to do over Zoom at times. I made a power point presentation using the lesson guide and only got through 1/4 of the content in this package. There was so much useful information! I’m going to use one of these all the time!
