A pressure ulcer is a sore caused by lying or sitting in the same position for an extended period of time. When pressure is applied to your skin for a prolonged period of time, it can cut off the blood supply to the area. Without enough blood, the skin becomes thin and may die. Ulcers triggered by pressure are a serious concern.
Bedsores or pressure sores are other names for pressure ulcers. They’re most common in places like your feet, ankles, hips, back, elbows, ears, head, and behind the knees, where your bones are close to the skin’s surface.
