The BBC Natural History unit launched the Planet Earth series in 2006, which was the most expensive nature documentary series ever commissioned by the BBC and the first to be filmed in high-definition. Because of its incredible video, innovative content, and depth of knowledge, the series has become a favorite in biology and environmental science classrooms.
Planet Earth has a total of eleven episodes. The worksheets and student guides I created for this series are all based on the BBC version narrated by David Attenborough. I didn’t write anything for the From Pole to Pole episode because it’s essentially a recap of the previous ones.
Every episode is jam-packed with “teachable moments.” If you’re interested in genetics, earth science, or ecology, there’s a fair chance one or more of these episodes will cover your topics.
This is a tutorial for teachers who want to use Planet Earth in their biology or environmental science classes. I highlight and illustrate some of the main ideas and topics discussed in each episode that are applicable to high school and undergraduate college courses.

Cbse class 5 social the movements of the earth

This lesson, unlike many of my lecture-based lessons, does not begin with a textbook assignment. Instead, students can complete the “Biome coloring map” and “Los Angeles Climatograph” lessons to prepare for this lesson.
The majority of the knowledge in the powerpoint is provided by necessity rather than choice; the textbook my class uses does not have a chapter or chapters that adequately cover the topics discussed in this lesson. As a result, it’s critical to check for comprehension frequently during the presentation, which I’ll go through in greater detail in the direct instruction portion.
Students finish the lesson by watching “Planet Earth: From Pole to Pole” and writing five short paragraphs to express their interpretation of the topics covered in this and the previous lesson.
Students will learn specific science terminology in this lesson and then use facts from a film to support claims they present in a brief writing assignment.
5 minutes of warm-up on the value of prior experience as a basis for new learning
I start the lesson by having students pull out their maps from the “Biomes Coloring Map” lesson and asking them what climatic zone they are in (answer: north temperate zone, better answer: the subtropics of the north temperate zone”). Obviously, your students can have different information depending on your venue.
