An encouraging omen As compared to similar students in the state, students at this school are making more academic progress considering where they were last year. High test scores indicate that students have good academic abilities and that the school is encouraging academic success better than most other schools.
There’s good news! This school’s test scores are significantly higher than the state average, indicating that the majority of students are performing at or above grade level. Parental advice Disparities between student groups may exist even in high-performing schools. Check the details in the Equity section below to see how well this school serves all of its students. Understand what your child’s on-track learning looks like and how you can help at home.
A concerning sign: Disadvantaged students at this school may be slipping behind their peers in the state, and there may be major achievement gaps at this school. Does this school have opportunities for all of its pupils, or does it exclude some? Schools that are effective know how to close the achievement gap.

Divide the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers to get the student/teacher ratio. Please keep in mind that a lower student-to-teacher ratio does not always imply a smaller class size. Schools occasionally employ part-time teachers, and some teachers are hired for specialized teaching with limited class sizes. The student-to-teacher ratio is influenced by these and other factors. Pre-Kindergarten may not be included of the student/teacher ratio in private schools.

Chelmsford High School was founded in 1917 as a public, coeducational high school. The new structure was built in 1974 in North Chelmsford, Massachusetts, United States. Prior to 1974, the high school was housed in what is now McCarthy Middle School. It is a public high school for students in grades nine through twelve, and Newsweek has ranked it among the top 500 schools in the nation. [number four]
It’s a part of a larger campus that houses four of the town’s seven colleges. The C. Edith McCarthy Middle School, the Col. Moses S. Parker Middle School, and the Charles D. Harrington Elementary School are the other three schools on the central campus. The Byam Elementary School, the Center Elementary School, and the South Row Elementary School are the town’s other three schools, which are spread out throughout the town. Westlands School, Chelmsford’s fifth elementary school, closed in 2008 due to budgetary constraints.
The school is divided into three houses. The houses are named after three prominent New England writers: Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and John Greenleaf Whittier. There was an additional house named after Emily Dickinson when the school was constructed. The school broke away from the house system after a decade, and classes were no longer exclusively separated into house hallways. The house structure now mostly serves administrative purposes. Two or three guidance counselors, a dean, and an office are assigned to each building. The year before they start school, all students are assigned to a building.
