Molecular Nutrition & Food Research is a primary research journal devoted to health, protection, and all aspects of molecular nutrition, including nutritional biochemistry, nutrigenomics, and metabolomics, with the aim of putting together knowledge from various disciplines:

One of the current challenges is finding systemic biomarkers that indicate local tissue inflammation caused by metabolic dysfunction such that low-grade inflammation can be quantified without biopsies before it progresses to a systemic disease (8, 9). To assess inflammation in metabolic dysfunction, complex time-resolved metabolic responses to metabolic challenge tests (e.g., the oral glucose challenge test (OGTT) or mixed meal test) have been used as a solution (10).
Although current anti-inflammation therapies appear to focus exclusively on inflammation, new opportunities for intervention in the interaction between metabolism and inflammation dynamics may exist. Increased anti-inflammatory nutritional intake, for example, is linked to a lower risk of overall mortality, cardiovascular disease, and cancer [as described by an anti-inflammatory diet capacity, see (2)]. (2). Inflammation is viewed as a pathological condition that results from several disease processes that arise late in disease pathogenesis, and it is typically targeted at this point. A refocus on the early stages of low-grade inflammation is needed to intercept this process before irreversible changes occur. Interception should concentrate on metabolism as well as inflammation dynamics to restore imbalances since metabolism and the innate immune system are related [for a summary, see (5, 7)].
