Two of the nation’s leading education charities have decided to merge, bringing together student assessment and school quality metrics, their boards of directors announced today. Measured Progress of Dover, N.H., an innovator in standards-based evaluation, and AdvancED of metro Atlanta, the world’s largest accrediting body and pioneer in quality improvement, will join forces to create a new and far-reaching nonprofit educational organization focusing on data-driven resources for school improvement.
The merger would result in a nonprofit with a budget of $120-million and 500 employees. The new organization represents a meeting of minds and complementary fields of expertise and experience, serving at least 28 million students in more than 40,000 schools in every state and in more than 70 countries. The experience of Measured Progress in psychometric testing, large-scale summative evaluation, and district and classroom assessment solutions will be combined with AdvancED’s expertise in collaborating with educators to make systemic improvements in school quality to help students succeed. The resulting company would provide an unprecedented, integrated technology solution, as well as a robust framework to help educators make better school-improvement decisions.

After merging with AdvancedED of Alpharetta, Ga., Dover-based Measured Progress now has a new name.
The combined organization will represent 36,000 institutions in about 80 counties, with a total of 25 million students and 5 million educators. It will provide innovative technology solutions, large-scale and local evaluation applications, low-cost mobile classroom observation tools, and high-power data dashboards.
