Exams aren’t for all, but with proper planning and knowledge of what to expect, they can be both interesting and instructive. During the academic year, technology helps students prepare for exams by allowing them to practice and complete routine class assignments on digital platforms.
The Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System is abbreviated as MCAS. These are statewide exams that are offered to Massachusetts students in public schools in the state. MCAS is an annual exam offered to all students in grades 3 through 8 and grade 10 each year. English Language Arts (ELA), Math, and Science are the subjects included in MCAS exams. Students in grades 3 and 8 take Math and ELA tests, as well as Science in grades 5 and 8.
End-of-course MCAS STE (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment Method Science and Technology/Engineering) assessments are offered to students in grades 10 and 11. Biology, Introductory Physics, Chemistry, and Technology/Engineering are all covered on the STE exams. To graduate in grade 10, students must pass Math, English Language Arts, and a Science subject.

The district’s findings include anyone who was evaluated in the district. Students enrolled for the full academic school year are included in the results for districts with more than one school. For districts with just one kindergarten, the results include all students that were tested in the district.
MCAS stands for Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System, a standardized exam provided to students in grades three through twelve. One of the requirements for receiving a high school diploma is that students complete the grade 10 exams in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and one of the four high school Science and Technology Engineering tests. The MCAS Alternate Assessment is used for a limited number of students with severe disabilities who are unable to take the regular MCAS assessments or with accommodations (MCAS-Alt). Furthermore, the MCAS program is used to keep schools and districts accountable on a yearly basis for their progress against the No Child Left Behind Law’s goal of making all students fluent in reading and mathematics by 2014.
