Massachusetts is the country’s seventh smallest territory. It occupies an area of 10,555 square miles (27,340 km2) in the New England region of the northeastern United States, with water covering 25.7 percent of the land. Its coast is formed by a number of wide bays. Boston is the largest city in Massachusetts, located at the mouth of the Charles River and at the farthest point of Massachusetts Bay.
Despite its small scale, Massachusetts has a number of distinct topographic regions. Greater Boston, along with the majority of the state’s population, is situated on the broad Atlantic Ocean coastal plain in the state’s eastern portion.

Healey was named director of the Civil Rights Division by Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley in 2007, where she spearheaded the state’s challenge to the federal Protection of Marriage Act. She went on to become the chief of the Public Safety and Advocacy Bureau and then the chief of the Business and Labor Bureau before resigning in 2013 to run for Attorney General in 2014. In the Democratic primary, she defeated former State Senator Warren Tolman, and in the general election, she defeated Republican attorney John Miller. Maura Tracy Healey was born at the Bethesda Naval Hospital and grew up as the eldest of five brothers and sisters. Her family moved to Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, when she was nine months old, and she was raised there. [three] Her mother worked as a nurse at Hampton Falls’ Lincoln Akerman School, and her father was a United States Navy captain and engineer. Edward Beattie, her stepfather, was a history teacher and a girls’ sports coach at Winnacunnet High School. Her ancestors came from Newburyport and the North Shore.

Attorney General Maura Healey is searching for a committed public-interest attorney to join her Western Massachusetts Regional Office (Springfield) as an Assistant Attorney General for the Government Bureau, with primary roles in both the Administrative Law Division and the Trial Division. Attorneys from all walks of life and careers are encouraged to apply. The successful nominee would handle a large caseload and be responsible for all phases of proceedings in both the Superior and Federal Courts, including jury and bench trials, mediations, appellate advocacy, discovery, and motion practice.
