To get a Commercial Building Permit, you’ll need a receipt from the Fire Department.
Anyone who wants to erect, modify, or demolish a house, or put up a sign, must first get a construction permit from the Building Department’s building inspector. Before any construction can begin, a building permit must be obtained and prominently displayed on the job site.
Construction supervisors who are approved by the state of Massachusetts are given building permits. Only structures with a volume of less than 35,000 cu. ft. are eligible for the state license. Building permits are granted to homeowners working on one or two unit dwellings where they live or wish to live as an exception to this rule. It should be remembered that when homeowners obtain construction permits, they can be held responsible for contractors who operate on their house, and they are not protected by the Homeowners Improvement Contractor Rule. For these purposes, the Building Department advises homeowners to use a properly licensed contractor to obtain a building permit.
