Brian Lewis, the Assistant Dean for Career Services at the University of North Carolina, has a diverse professional background, especially in education. He has worked at the University of Iowa College of Law, the University of Florida College of Law, and, most recently, the prestigious William and Mary School of Law in Virginia, only before accepting his job with UNC. He has earned several honors and is a well-liked member of the UNC community. He is a true leader who is trusted by both staff and students.
Lewis paints a practical image of the recruiting picture for seniors planning to leave college life behind and begin their working years in their chosen professions in a recent interview with The Daily Tar Heel. Also among those with outstanding academic accomplishments, the poor economy has made life difficult in recent years. When you add in the fact that the financial sector has taken a beating, the picture becomes grim. “Students are taking longer to find the positions that are still available,” Lewis says. He goes on to say that between 2007 and 2009, the national law student job rate fell by 3.6 percent.
