Bernadine Lormilus, a native of Boston and a graduate of the Boston Public Schools, can relate to any excited and inquisitive student in her Dorchester classroom at John Winthrop Elementary School. Her dedication to the students and communities of Boston, with which she is very familiar, inspires her willingness to teach in the BPS. Bernadine values the professional development opportunities she provides to help her meet the needs of all of her students, and she also takes advantage of the many teacher leadership opportunities available in the BPS to help her grow as a professional and lead her peers.

John Winthrop Elementary School is a learning center that serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade with academic and extracurricular opportunities. The school has more than 200 students enrolled. It includes pre- and after-school activities. Lunch is served at John Winthrop Elementary School, which includes french fries, juices, milk, muffins, pizzas, and chicken fillets. Academic classes in English, language arts, mathematics, science, reading, and writing are available at the school. It also offers advice and counselling, as well as technology and maintenance.
