What does it mean to be a tax-exempt organization?
Tax-exempt entities are corporations or non-profits that are not required to pay taxes to the IRS. The IRS can grant tax exemptions to a variety of organizations, including non-profits, charitable organizations, churches and religious groups, political parties, and so on.
To pay employees and file business tax returns, a company must have an EIN. A company must receive an EIN in order to be listed as a Partnership, LLC, Organization, S Corporation, Non-profit, or other entity. In addition, without an EIN, financial institutions such as banks, credit unions, and brokerage houses would refuse to open an account for a company. Since all companies, including those with no revenue, are required to file at least a federal income tax return, any company operating or incorporated in the United States is required to obtain an EIN either before or after receiving its charter.
Inspire & innovate: episode 5 – women leaders month
Muhaideen Batah, a Palestinian immigrant, first arrived in New York City in 1989. With his wife and two sons, he moved to Vermont eleven years ago. Muhaideen is now the spokesperson for the Islamic Society of Vermont and runs his own woodworking company.
I moved to the United States because I had friends in New York City, so I went to college there. I received my A.A. in photography at Parsons School of Design, then moved on to The Empire State College (SUNY) State University of New York for my B.A. in photography.
When I visit my family in Palestine, I still carry my camera. I’d like to catch the Palestinian people, our way of life, and our joy. I’d like to demonstrate our human side. We aren’t what the so-called news media or Hollywood media want to portray us to be. The truth is that we are just human beings with our own culture and traditions. I’d like to show that side of us, which I do when I have the opportunity.
I’m very hands-on, and I’ve always been a perfectionist. I took a woodworking course at home. Hand tools were taught to us. We learned how to use various devices. That is where I began my career as a woodworker.
