Have you ever wanted to learn how to take the tricky calculation or how to properly care for your tool? Maybe you’re curious about how different trades use their instruments. Then continue reading… Do you have a suggestion to share? Then get in touch with us!

While many of you can believe you know how to use a tape measure, do you know how to use it to its full potential? Do you know what the peculiar set of marks contained inside the first 20cm of a tape’s length relate to?

Although some nations, such as the United States, continue to use Imperial or ‘English’ marks (feet, inches, yards, and so on), the majority of countries have adopted the metric system. The United Kingdom, on the other hand, continues to use a mixture of the two systems, with the European Union’s obligatory metric system and the more conventional Imperial system still in use by many trades.

There are four standards of tape measure precision that are commonly recognized. The most accurate is Class 1 (represented by the Roman numeral ‘I’). Class 2 (designated by the letter ‘II’) is the second most accurate, with Class 3 (III) being the third most accurate. The blades of unclassified tapes would be devoid of any markings. We use the term “unclassified” to describe items that have not been checked and are not guaranteed to meet a certain degree of accuracy.

RHEED (reflection high-energy electron diffraction) is a method for determining the surface properties of crystalline materials. RHEED systems only collect data from the sample’s surface layer, which sets it apart from other materials characterization methods that rely on high-energy electron diffraction. Due to the structure of the device, transmission electron microscopy, another popular electron diffraction technique, samples the bulk of the sample. Surface sensitivity is often accomplished by low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), but LEED does so by using low-energy electrons.

While modern RHEED systems have additional parts to optimize the technique, a RHEED system requires an electron source (gun), photoluminescent detector panel, and a sample with a clean surface.

[two] The electron gun fires a beam of electrons at a very small angle relative to the sample surface, which strikes the sample. Diffracted electrons diffract from atoms at the sample’s surface, and a small fraction of the diffracted electrons interact constructively at particular angles, forming normal patterns on the detector. The diffraction pattern at the detector is a function of the sample surface since electrons interfere according to the location of atoms on the sample surface. The most basic configuration of a RHEED device is shown in Figure 1.

The International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) is a non-profit organization that Section 110 Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) were established in 1997 to enable IFSC law firms to administer securitisation business; in 2012, these firms will use the SPVs to help US distressed debt funds shield over €40 billion in Irish assets (€80 billion in loan balances) from Irish tax.

An Irish Section 110 special purpose vehicle (SPV) or section 110 business is an Irish tax resident company that qualifies for a special tax regime under Section 110 of the Irish Taxes Consolidation Act 1997 (TCA) that allows the SPV to achieve “tax neutrality,” meaning it pays no Irish taxes, VAT, or duties.

In June 2016, it was revealed that US distressed debt funds used Section 110 SPVs[6] structured by IFSC service firms[7] to avoid paying Irish taxes on €80 billion[8] of domestic investments in Ireland.
