Empathic listening (also known as active listening or reflective listening) is a form of listening and responding to others that encourages mutual understanding and trust. It is a necessary skill for both third parties and disputants, as it allows the listener to receive and correctly interpret the speaker’s message, as well as respond appropriately. The answer is an important part of the listening process and can determine whether or not a negotiation or mediation is effective. Empathic listening is one of its advantages.

You should usually be completely present in the moment or mindfully listening to what the speaker is saying while doing this form of listening. During this time, your aim is to concentrate on the speaker rather than on yourself. You’re attempting to comprehend from the speaker’s point of view.
