International students face a significant obstacle in leaving their home and comfort zone. However, living with an American host family will provide you with a wealth of positive experiences. Let me share some of my lessons learned from three years of living with host families in American high schools with you today!
The Newman School is in the heart of Boston, one of the most well-known cities in the United States. The school’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program and honors level array of college-preparatory course work provide academic and personal challenges to students.
The Newman School facility, which was built in 1881, is located in Boston’s historic Back Bay. The school, which was once a residence, is one of the best-preserved examples of Victorian and Edwardian residential architecture in the country. Off-campus athletic facilities are also available to students.

On September 14, 1942, Holy Name High School opened its doors. The new high school offered a French and English bilingual program. Holy Name had risen to 122 students by 1946, and its status was upgraded to a Central Catholic High School in 1957. When Bishop Bernard Flanagan dedicated the new building on September 24, 1967, the school relocated from Illinois Street to Granite Street. Holy Name Central Catholic High School added Grades 7 and 8 in September 1997. The Archdiocese of Worcester announced in December 2019 that the school will close at the end of the school year and combine with St. Peter-Marian to form St. Paul Diocesan Junior/Senior High School. The new school will be on the Holy Name University campus in Worcester. [three]
Social studies, literature, natural sciences, mathematics, foreign languages, technology, theology, art, music, and physical education are all part of the curriculum. As a Catholic school, Holy Name encourages students to live out the teachings of Jesus Christ in their personal and social lives. Virtual High School offers students the opportunity to supplement their education with online courses.
