Color prints on 11″ x 17″ paper are ideal for study and educational purposes, but they are not appropriate for framing because center seams and imperfections are not eliminated. Orders for less than 15 test prints will be folded in an envelope and shipped. Orders of a certain size will be shipped flat via UPS.

Washington d.c. map 1800

From 1612 to the present, the Washingtoniana Map Collection contains over 8,000 print, microfilm, and microfiche charts. Real estate atlases, Sanborn Fire Insurance charts, and other maps are among them. The collection focuses on the metropolitan area of Washington, D.C.
Historic real estate atlases, also known as “plat” maps, depict the footprints of every building in the city at the time they were written. Hopkins (1877-1890s) and Baist (1877-1890s) atlases are among the Washingtoniana holdings (1903-67). Some early Baist atlases (1903-1919) have been digitized and made available online by the DC Public Library or the Library of Congress. For different parts of the city, atlases are organized by volume.
Plat maps show basic details about a house, such as lot size, building size, and content.
These maps will also assist you in remembering old lot numbers, street names, and subdivision names. Studying maps over time gives you a sense of how the neighborhood around your house has changed over time, as well as what was there before your house was constructed. You should also check for improvements in the footprint’s form to see if the building has been altered.
