Hernia of the bladder

Hernia of the bladder quizlet

This is the most common hernia symptom, and it’s also the easiest to detect for many people. The groin (inguinal hernia or femoral hernias), the belly button (umbilical hernia), and the site of previous abdominal surgery are the most common locations for bulging hernias (ventral or incisional hernias). The size of the bulge can vary.
Some people will not experience pain as a result of the hernia, while others will experience acute or excruciating pain. If your hernia is an acute hernia, that is, one that occurs with a sudden tearing or stretching of muscle tissue, you may feel a sharp, sudden pain. Some patients report discomfort that feels like a muscle ache or pressure. Others simply experience a strange sensation or tearing in their groin that wasn’t there previously.
When the nerves around the hernia are pinched or strained as the hernia enlarges, you may feel localized hernia pain, even though you didn’t have pain with an acute hernia. You can also feel pressure in the hernia region when exercising or doing physically demanding work.

INGUINAL HERNIA SURGERYEach year in England, over 60 000 primary inguinal hernia repairs are performed. The majority of these are found in males. Urinary retention, or the failure to move urine, is a common side effect of groin hernia surgery. The incidence has been recorded to range from less than 5% to nearly 25%. Urinary retention becomes more common as people get older. It is even more if the patient already has urinary symptoms. What is the significance of this?
Some patients may need catheterization and spend more time in the hospital as a result of urinary retention. Patients may need additional surgical procedures to be able to move urine again in some cases. One of the most common causes of delayed discharge after groin hernia surgery is urinary retention.
After inguinal hernia surgery, patients can experience urinary problems as a result of overstimulation of muscle in the bladder neck and prostate, causing obstruction.
Some medications may prevent these muscles from being stimulated. Men’s urinary problems are already treated with these medications. They’re classified as alpha-blockers, and Tamsulosin is the most commonly prescribed one in the UK.

Bladder hernias protrude into the femoral canal in women and the inguinal canal in men, and are very common (1). In the past, bladder inguinoscrotal hernias were diagnosed intraoperatively or through excretory urography, resulting in complications including urinary tract infection and obstructive uropathy (2-4). The urologist’s preoperative diagnosis of a hernia intruding into the bladder is critical in directing the surgical preparation (5).
