Schools occasionally employ part-time teachers, and some teachers are hired for specialized teaching with limited class sizes. The student-to-teacher ratio is influenced by these and other factors. Eastern middle school students honored for documentaries
Henry Lord was one of the city’s four main middle schools, and it served students from Maplewood and the South End. It was built in the early 1920s to replace a previous school on the street that burned down in 1921. When a new school was constructed on the corner of Amity and Laurel, adjacent to Cook Pond, it was closed in the 1990s. The school served as the Fall River Public Schools Administration South Branch until it was abruptly closed on January 9, 2009 due to asbestos contamination. The old Stone School on Globe Street, a few blocks north, now houses the majority of Ad South.
