School lunches are becoming more balanced, with a greater range of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and various protein sources now available. In 2010, Congress enacted a number of significant reforms to both the content of student meals and the administration of school meal programs. Some of these improvements have already taken effect, although others are still being introduced. In addition to following these standards, school meal plans must provide students with choices from at least four different food groups at breakfast and five different food groups at lunch. Students must choose at least a minimum number of the provided foods, including at least one fruit and/or vegetable at each meal, in order for the school to obtain USDA reimbursement for the meals.

This will be my 17th year teaching middle school science and my 6th at Summit Academy. Prior to entering Summit, I taught 8th grade science, forensic science, introduction to sports, and 6th grade science at St. John the Baptist Middle School for 11 years. I taught Biology laboratory parts at Salt Lake Community College the year before I began teaching at SJBMS. Back in the 1990s, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse with a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology (Chemistry minor). In 2007, I have graduated from the University of Phoenix with a master’s degree in Secondary Education. My wife and I moved to Utah in 2001 and have been in love with the state and the greater Salt Lake City area ever since. We have two beautiful daughters who both play college soccer (Carroll College and the United States Naval Academy), as well as two rambunctious Olde English Bulldogges.

Hello, we’re having a discussion about gravy fries on the Las Vegas website. Some of us believe that putting gravy on french fries is especially common in New Jersey (it’s the only place I’ve ever seen it on a menu), while others, including a long-time Jersey resident, believe we’re a bunch of knuckleheads.
On the menu of every self-respecting Jersey diner are fries with gravy and fries with gravy and cheese. I’m not sure how long they’ve been around, but I recall ordering them after several late nights out in High School, which was more than 20 years ago.
