“Crush Step 3” was playing in my head as I read this. In reviewing subjects, I found it to be more logically structured, with sections on Diagnosis and Care for the most common illnesses. In general, First Aid had more knowledge than Crush Step 3, but Crush was stronger on occasion. Overall, it was probably better to use both of them at the same time. I can guarantee that the test-taker would pass Step 3 if I knew anything about First Aid.

The most critical study resource for the USMLE Step 1 exam (along with your favorite qbank, of course!) is First Aid USMLE Step 1. Together, First Aid and a well-known qbank like UWorld will help both struggling students and high-achievers reach Step 1 with a score of 260 or higher.
First Aid is a book written by students who excelled on the exam and published by McGraw-Hill Publishers (the ubiquitous textbook company with all educational services in the United States). It’s important to note that it wasn’t published by the National Board of Medical Examiners, which is responsible for developing and administering the USMLE Step 1 exam. Every year, a new version is published to reflect improvements in the USMLE test, and it is updated with useful diagrams and maps, as well as mnemonics contributed by students. Faculty members review the changes before they are written.
Purchasing the most current edition of First Aid means that you are up to date with the most recent iterations and updates to the USMLE test, as high-performing students from previous years’ cohorts add feedback and edits to the book. The most recent version is often the best, simply because there have been many years of feedback, suggestions, and corrections, all of which are (usually) for the better. The most recent version, at the very least, will be the most representative of recent exam material, as it has been revised the most recently.
