Far and away movie summary

What did you discover about the workings of political machines? Political machines, I discovered, were extremely deceptive. They gave newly arriving immigrants jobs and places to stay, making them think of the political machine as beneficial. In fact, the political machine restricted their freedom and forced immigrants to submit to the will of the “ward boss.” What did you discover about the American immigrant experience? I discovered that becoming an immigrant is extremely taxing. Since there was so much discrimination at the time, particularly against the Irish, many immigrants lived in squalor and could only depend on manual labor and meager wages. What did you learn about the Oklahoma land rush during your research? Hundreds of people traveled from all over the world to take part in the run, I heard. The race’s participants were also desperate, resorting to a variety of strategies in order to protect their own storyline. Shannon had certain preconceptions about America; which of them were accurate and which were not? Shannon imagined a world where everything was “new,” glamorous, and land was easy to come by. These assumptions were incorrect. Her initial feelings, which were right, were that she would be able to become more self-sufficient and find a position where she wouldn’t have to be proper or well-mannered.

Far and away movie questions answer key on line

After some trouble with his landlord’s father, a young man leaves Ireland with his landlord’s daughter, and the two dream of owning land at the big give-away in Oklahoma in 1893. When they arrive in their new home, they look for work and begin saving money. The man becomes a local bare-knuckle boxer and rides in glory until he is defeated; after that, his employers steal all of the couple’s money, and they must survive the winter while trying to keep their dream of owning land alive. Meanwhile, the woman’s parents discover where she has gone and have traveled to the United States to locate her and return her.
This film, ostensibly a historical romance, contains a few politically sensitive issues. To begin with, the “Irish Question” appears to be as unsolvable today as it was in the 1890s. Second, land ownership is still a source of heated debate in many parts of the world. And I’m sure native North Americans have a different perspective on the Oklahoma land grants. Aside from art criticism, “Farand Away” should spark some lively political discussion. From a viewer’s perspective, the film is very fine. Since I was not born in Ireland, I am unable to comment on the characters’ accents, which seems to be a major point of contention among Irish citizens. However, it is a good story that is well driven and has a good plot. A pleasant romance between two socially unmatched individuals, whose cultural incompatibilities are eventually masked by an intrinsic soul match. The final scenes in Oklahoma are fantastic; they seem to catch the spirit of the old American west, when the land appeared to be waiting for someone to come along and claim it.

K-PAX is a 2001 American-German science fiction mystery film directed by Iain Softley and starring Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges, Mary McCormack, and Alfre Woodard, based on Gene Brewer’s 1995 novel of the same name. A psychiatric patient claims to be an alien from the planet K-PAX in this film. Throughout his care, the patient exhibits a positive outlook on life that inspires his fellow patients, especially his psychiatrist.
Prot (not capitalized and pronounced with a long O, rhyming with boat) is committed to the Psychiatric Institute of Manhattan after pretending to be an extraterrestrial from the planet ‘K-PAX,’ 1,000 light years away in the Lyra constellation. Dr. Mark Powell, a therapist, tries to help him overcome his obvious delusions there. Prot, on the other hand, is unflappable in his ability to react intelligently to questions about himself, K-PAX, and its civilizations. Prot can see ultraviolet light and is totally immune to the effects of Thorazine, according to his medical examination. Powell introduces him to a group of astrophysicists who are taken aback when prot demonstrates a degree of understanding about his claimed star system that they have never seen before.
