Elephant admirer Since she was a child, Ellie has had a fascination with elephants. She was naturally drawn to elephants and all things related to them. She has an elephant-themed room, always receives elephant-themed presents, and reads everything she can about elephants. She also aspires to be a big animal veterinarian with an emphasis on elephants. She has traveled to Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Nepal to see her beloved elephants up close and personal as part of her affection. What she found through experience was a sad awareness of how badly elephants are handled, and how the tourism industry, which she herself was once a part of, is putting this beloved creature in distress. What she did find, though, were devoted groups dedicated to making a difference. This book emerged from a young girl’s pure passion for elephants, her own experiences with them around the world, and her willingness to raise funds to help organizations seeking better solutions.
Ellie’s Elephants are a set of elephants created by Ellie. Of course, there are no chains! Ellie’s family has travelled and lived all over the world together for a long time, and they have been having fun exploring and learning about the world we live in. Ellie has always had a thing for elephants. She has been honored and privileged to be able to hear about and encounter some of these beautiful animals as they have moved. She saw some things that didn’t sit right with her, being the caring and observant girl that she is. So…she pondered it, and then pondered it some more, and wondered how she could contribute to making the environment and lives of elephants better. Her efforts culminated in this cute little novel. Ellie, who is ten years old, wrote her story in order to share it with anyone who may be interested. She doesn’t literally say, “Hey!” Rather than saying, “I see a problem,” say, “Here’s something we can do better… and here’s how we can do it together.” Well done, Ellie. Thank you for sharing your story and your determination to make a difference in the lives of elephants. We all have goals and dreams, and we all have a direction to follow in life. We contribute to a better world by working to change the world around us with our souls, minds, and hands—through our work and effort—rather than relying on others to do it for us. Thank you for inviting us to accompany you on your trip, learn more, and consider how we can help make our planet a safer and healthier place for both humans and animals!
