Dore + Whittier began partnering with the Town of Dedham in 2003, when the Dedham Public Schools created a district-wide Master Plan. A new Middle School and a replacement Avery Elementary School were identified in the Master Plan, and both have been completed after being constructed by Dore + Whittier Architects. The Middle School project was difficult because there were major site problems that needed to be resolved with the general contractor, resulting in a mediation phase halfway through the project. These problems were eventually settled without the need for litigation; however, the schedule was disrupted, and the Owner and the original OPM were unable to agree on a contract extension. Dore + Whittier was approached to step in to offer OPM services to finish the school’s construction and bring the project to a close.
