She served as a parachutist for the Royal Air Force during WWII. After marrying Lorne Wood Ladner, a US serviceman stationed in England, she emigrated to America in 1946. Despite spending the majority of her adult life in America, she was still a British citizen.
Wini worked at the Gardiner Hospital before retiring. She was a fantastic chef, a voracious reader and gardener, a Jeopardy fan, and a wonderful mother, wife, and friend. She was a beautiful person who will be deeply missed.
Marilyn Ladner of South Berwick, Lorna Ladner of Augusta, and Stacy Ladner and her partner, Michael Hudson, of Gardiner; her two granddaughters, Fiona and Annabel Ladner-Hudson of Gardiner; and several nieces and nephews in England and the United States survive her.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the excellent staff at Augusta Rehabilitation Center and Beacon Hospice, as well as Dr. Van Summerin for his medical treatment. Paula from the hospice deserves a special thank you. Even our mother’s final days, she really made a difference.
Mark was adored by his family and is survived by his parents, sisters Sonja Ames (Jeremy) and Erica Thompson (Nicholas), brother Michael Parmley (Tayler), and 12 nieces and nephews.
Mark was always relaxed with people regardless of their backgrounds, having been exposed to various cultures through multiple family transfers as a child and having gone through some difficult times himself. Without bias, he could become anyone’s mate. He was a charitable man who enjoyed assisting those in need. Mark was a gentle, kind man who will be missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.
On Monday, November 16th, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. What happened to Alan Turing’s friend Arnold Murray, who was accused of theft? I couldn’t find any later details about Murray or any recordings of his Turing reminiscences. Thank you.
This is the book from which the film The Imitation Game was adapted. Hodges mentions interviewing Murray in 1980 in this book, and there seem to be several pages devoted to the subject. Murray felt guilty after Turing’s death, was a musician in the 1960s, and later married, according to page 675 of the novel (no more details about that on this page). Murray is said to have passed away in 1989.
Arnold was my paternal uncle. Like Alan, he was found guilty of homosexuality. I’ve read two books about Arnold, both from a different viewpoint. He stayed in Manchester, married, and had two children. They parted ways. He moved to London, remarried, and had two more children. The relationship had come to an end. He had work released as an artist. He enjoyed socializing with intellectuals, singers, and artists. Anyone who is interested in learning something specific is welcome to do so. Alan and Arnold, it seems, held in touch.
