Gwen Graham gave Floridians a glimpse into how she will be different from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis less than a week after the Tampa Bay Times named her as a possible challenger to DeSantis in 2022.
Graham’s support for a stay-at-home order would have far-reaching consequences for Floridians. Except for vital services and events, anyone residing in the state will be required to stay in their homes under such a scheme. Outside of the house, the order will restrict travel and personal interactions.
In the early stages of the outbreak, DeSantis released a stay-at-home order. His decision, however, came at a time when the federal government was negotiating legislation to offer financial aid to those who would be affected by such an order. The Cares Act was eventually passed.

Ronald Dion DeSantis (born September 14, 1978) is an American lawyer and politician who has served as Florida’s 46th governor since 2019. He was a Republican who served in the United States House of Representatives from 2013 to 2018, representing Florida’s 6th congressional district. DeSantis worked as an officer and attorney in the United States Navy’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps after graduating from Yale University and Harvard Law School (JAG).
DeSantis ran for the U.S. Senate in Florida in 2016, but withdrew when incumbent Senator Marco Rubio declared his intention to run for reelection. DeSantis then decided to run for reelection to his seat in the United States House of Representatives. He became a staunch friend of President Donald Trump during his time in Congress. DeSantis has slammed Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election on several occasions.
DeSantis won the Republican primary for governor of Florida on August 28, 2018. After a computer recount, he was declared the winner of the general election on November 20, 2018, beating the Democratic nominee, Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum. He is the youngest governor in the United States, at the age of 42.

The Florida Medical Association, the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association, the Florida Justice Reform Institute, and others are seeking clarity on Executive Order No. 20-72 and are proposing solutions to the unintended effects.
Tallahassee, Florida – The Florida Medical Association (FMA), the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association (FOMA), the Florida Justice Reform Institute (FJRI), and other health-care providers and facilities wrote to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis today, seeking advice on Executive Order No. 20-72, which prohibits non-essential elective medical procedures.
According to the letter, the March 20, 2020 Executive Order “will have unforeseen consequences” for those “health care providers [who] are expected to make new and complicated decisions about which patients to see and treat right away, and which patients should wait before the executive order is lifted.”
“We urge Gov. DeSantis to urgently accept these medical professional liability provisions to enable health care providers to make the required decisions without fear of litigation as a result of those decisions, under Executive Order No. 20-72,” said FMA President Ronald F. Giffler, MD, JD, MBA.
