Chapter 17 practice quiz
Water is poured into a U-shaped tube, which is then separated into two parts by a membrane at the tube’s lowest point. The membrane allows water to pass through but not ions. On the left side of the tube, 50g of salt is added and allowed to dissolve.
Reason for this: The tendency for water to disperse into a solution through osmosis is known as osmotic pressure. The salt ions are unable to cross the membrane and equalize the concentrations on both sides of the tube because the membrane is not permeable to ions. Instead, water will flow to the salty side of the tube until the pressure in the salty tube equals the entropy powers. As a result, the water level on the salt-filled side of the tube would rise.
The Haber-Bosch process, or simply the Haber process, produces ammonia from nitrogen and hydrogen gas in a typical industrial reaction. The Haber process produces ammonia, which is created by a worker in a business. The gaseous ammonia is then dissociated in water to create an aqueous solution. Since ammonia is a base, it can accept a proton from water, resulting in the formation of ammonium ions. The following are the two reactions that are involved:

What does it mean to assume that a 200-mL sample of a salt solution and a 400-mL sample of the same solution have the same molarity? What are the similarities and differences between the two samples? What are the variations between these two samples?
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of the United States sets restrictions on the amount of hazardous chemicals that can be discharged into sewage systems. A number of substances have been set limits, including hexavalent chromium, which is restricted to 0.50 mg/L. What is the actual allowable molarity of hexavalent chromium discharged as potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) by an industry?
