Divide the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers to get the student/teacher ratio. Please keep in mind that a lower student-to-teacher ratio does not always imply a smaller class size. In some cases, schools employ teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized teaching with very small class sizes. The student-to-teacher ratio is influenced by these and other factors. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.

P3 was in charge of the study to find a solution to the 91-year-old structure. The solution was an addition of 57,000 SF to the existing 47,000 SF Center School. The project will provide elementary educational space and opportunities for many years to come. A new two-story Structural Steel, Masonry-clad classroom wing with a one-story courtyard wraparound housing administration, food services, and a new cafeteria is part of the solution. The project will begin renovations of the current schoolhouse once it is completed in July 2018. After 92 years of continuous service to the Town of Hanover, the Sylvester School will be retired.

Hanover High School is a public high school in the Massachusetts town of Hanover. It is for students in grades 9 through 12. Hanover High School is a continuation of Hanover Middle School and either Sylvester/Center School or Cedar School before that. In 1958, Hanover High School first opened its doors. The first class to graduate was in 1959. Formerly, Sylvester School was the middle school.
Hanover’s mascot is the Hawks, and their colors are blue and gold. HHS’s mascot was the Indians until 2021, when it was changed to the Hawks after a contest that received 400 entries. The name “Sylvester” was selected as the mascot for the Hanover Hawks after another contest. Edmund Q. Sylvester, a prominent Hanover resident in the late 1800s, is the source of the name Sylvester. The Sylvester family owned land in the area of the old Hanover shipyards, as well as a farm. Hanover Center’s old elementary school is also named after him.
