René Magritte’s painting The Treachery of Images (French: La Trahison des Images) was completed in 1929. This Is Not a Pipe and The Wind and the Song are two other names for the song. The well-known pipe. How many people chastised me for it! Will you, however, stuff my pipe? Isn’t it just a representation, though? So, if I had written “This is a pipe” on my picture, I would have been lying! René Magritte was a Belgian surrealist painter who was best known for his [number four]
The painting has been used to illustrate meta messages conveyed by paralanguage, such as Alfred Korzybski’s “The word is not the thing” and “The map is not the territory,” as well as Denis Diderot’s This is not a story. The pipe in the painting may be a drawing of a pipe, according to one interpretation.
In response to poet Paul Valéry’s publication of “Notes sur la poésie” in Les Nouvelles littéraires on September 28, 1929, Paul Éluard and André Breton published an essay about poetry in La Révolution surréaliste (The Surrealist Revolution) on December 15, 1929. Valéry’s “Poetry is a Survival” was mocked by Breton and Éluard, who wrote “Poetry is a Pipe,” a reference to Magritte’s painting. (12)

The indicatrices show how the 3D world as seen from space differs from 2D representations of its surface.
The relationship between an entity and a representation of that object, such as a geographical territory and a map of it, is described by the map–territory relation. “The map is not the land,” and “the word is not the object,” said Polish-American scientist and philosopher Alfred Korzybski, expressing his belief that an abstraction derived from something, or a reaction to it, is not the thing itself. Many people, according to Korzybski, confuse maps with territories, or models of reality with reality itself. The relationship has been defined in a variety of ways, including Alan Watts’ “The menu is not the meal.”
The phrase first appeared in print on December 28, 1931, in Alfred Korzybski’s paper “A Non-Aristotelian System and Its Need for Rigour in Mathematics and Physics,” which he presented at a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in New Orleans, Louisiana. Science and Sanity, pp. 747–761, reprinted the paper in 1933. 1st Korzybski acknowledges his debt to mathematician Eric Temple Bell in this book, whose epigram “the map is not the thing mapped” was published in the magazine Numerology. René François Ghislain Magritte (21 November 1898 – 15 August 1967; French: [ne fswa il mait]) was a Belgian surrealist artist. He became well-known for his humorous and thought-provoking photographs. His work is known for questioning viewers’ preconceptions of reality by portraying ordinary objects in uncommon settings. Pop art, minimalist art, and conceptual art have all been inspired by his imagery.
René Magritte was born in the Belgian town of Lessines, in the province of Hainaut. He was the eldest son of Léopold Magritte, a tailor and textile merchant, and Régina (née Bertinchamps), who worked as a milliner before marrying. Magritte’s early life is largely unknown. In 1910, he started drawing lessons.
His mother committed suicide by drowning herself in the River Sambre on March 12, 1912. Her attempt at suicide was not her first; she had made many over the years, prompting her husband Léopold to lock her in her bedroom. She ran away one day and was gone for days. Her body was found a mile or so downstream from the river.

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is a museum in Los Angeles that is located on Wilshire Boulevard in the Miracle Mile neighborhood. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art is located on Museum Row, next to the La Brea Tar Pits (George C. Page Museum).
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art was established in 1961, following a split from the Los Angeles Museum of History, Science, and Art. It relocated to the Wilshire Boulevard complex, built by William Pereira, four years later. In the 1980s, the museum’s wealth and collections grew, and it began to add buildings in that decade and continued in subsequent decades. Four buildings on campus were demolished in 2020 to make way for a redesigned facility by Peter Zumthor. His design sparked outrage in the city, as well as criticism from architectural critics and museum curators, who criticized it for its lack of gallery space, bad design, and exorbitant costs.
