We currently reside in Cambridge and enjoy it immensely; we own our condo and are surrounded by parks, restaurants, and public transportation. Our friends and family are wary of public schools in Cambridge, and urge us to move to towns with better quality public schools, such as Brookline, Belmont, or Lexington, where we want to raise a family.
To be clear, we support public education and would prefer to send our children to public schools if we knew they would receive a good education. And we don’t believe that a child’s school test scores alone represent the standard of his or her education. We have a few years until our child starts kindergarten, so we have time to consider whether we should stay or transfer. We found the lottery scheme for Cambridge Public Schools to be very perplexing, but we’d like to think it’s not as difficult as it seems.
