There are several options available to you: Go Buses, Megabus, Bolt Bus, Grayhound, and “Chinatown” buses provide bus service. Amtrak’s Acela Express and Northeast Regional trains are just marginally slower. The Delta shuttle and other low-cost flights are open.
So, which is the best option? Here’s a rundown of all the various choices in the crowded Boston-New York transportation corridor: buses, Amtrak’s Northeast Regional trains, Acela, low-cost shuttle flights, and more. We list the advantages and disadvantages of each to help you determine which is right for you.
Bus fares from NYC to Boston with free WiFi and other luxuries are almost always less costly – often MUCH LESS – than Amtrak Acela train tickets or even the cheapest flight to New York.
Although all five options on this page can bring you from Boston to New York, the facilities differ from cozy to no-frills. Unfortunately, Boston’s luxury bus to New York is no longer operating, but it was also the most luxurious, so there are still plenty of options with low-to-mid-priced fares.

Amtrak is a rail line that operates between the United States and three provinces in Canada. Amtrak runs more than 300 trains a day along a 21,000-mile (34,000-kilometer) path. These medium and long-distance intercity trains travel to over 500 destinations at speeds of up to 240 km/h. Its headquarters are in Washington, D.C., and it provides four different styles of travel: First Class, Sleeper, Business, and Coach. Saver, Value, Versatile, Business, and Premium fares are divided into five categories. Amtrak trains are known for their spacious seating, plug-in control, large windows, and adequate storage.
Boston, Providence, New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and Baltimore are among the main stops on Amtrak’s Northeast Regional train line, which runs from Virginia to Massachusetts. Wi-Fi, a comfortable car, a cafe, and business-class seating are all available, and traveling with a small dog or cat is allowed. For a cheaper Saver Fare, book at least 14 days in advance.
