The Blue Star, a landmark fine-dining restaurant in Colorado Springs for the past two decades, will close its doors on Saturday. According to owner Blue Star Company, the restaurant at 1645 S. Tejon St. will reopen in a to-be-announced downtown location in 2019, but not until 2019. The restaurant’s house, which is owned by Blue Star Group owner Joseph Coleman and Bristol Brewing Co.’s Mike Bristol, needs renovations, according to marketing director Sarah Arnold. As a result, she said, the restaurant is closing and a new location is being sought.
According to Arnold, a new Blue Star site has been found in downtown, but plans are still being finalized. She expects an announcement on its position by the end of the year. Although Blue Star is closed, Coleman wants to “re-imagine” the restaurant’s design, and Arnold said it’s uncertain if it will reopen as a fine-dining restaurant. “The new Blue Star will be based on innovative and great food, as well as high standards of hospitality and an unrivaled service experience,” she said. “It will undoubtedly be our primary target. If that happens to be fine dining, that’s awesome. This isn’t always the case. This is something we’ll look at in the next step.” Blue Star first opened its doors in Old Colorado City in 1995, and three years later, it relocated to South Tejon Street. La’au’s Taco Shop near Colorado College is still owned by Blue Star Group. The old Ivywild School building on South Cascade Avenue is now owned by Blue Star Group and Bristol Brewing, which was redesigned to house a number of commercial uses. The school’s Principal’s Office and Old School Bakery restaurants are operated by Blue Star Company.
