The Bennett School, located near downtown Leominster, is the oldest structure in the Leominster Public System that is still in use as a school. The 2.5-acre property includes a historic brick structure that was built in 1874, enlarged in 1887, and expanded again in 1923. The land has not been updated or maintained over the years, despite the fact that the building has.
The beautification campaign is focused on revitalizing the grounds to provide a healthy and secure educational and recreational environment for the school’s regular attendance of over 250 students. Neighborhood families and the Leominster Recreation Department will also use the revamped area as a recreational park for basketball games.
From now until May 1, 2006, bricks will be available for purchase. A 48-inch brick with three lines of text of up to 30 characters each costs $30.00. For $100.00, larger 8-inch bricks with up to six lines of text are affordable. There are also bricks for company ads. The brick order forms are available on the Leominster Public Schools website at www.leominster.mec.edu, under the Bennett School, under Donation Form.

Divide the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers to get the student/teacher ratio. Please keep in mind that a lower student-to-teacher ratio does not always imply a smaller class size. Schools occasionally employ part-time teachers, and some teachers are hired for specialized teaching with limited class sizes. The student-to-teacher ratio is influenced by these and other factors. Pre-Kindergarten may not be included of the student/teacher ratio in private schools.

The result? Accurate comparisons between colleges, school districts, and communities in the same (or different) areas, as well as between schools in different states.
It is well recognized that the standard of education offered by public schools differs significantly from one school district to the next, as well as from one city to the next. Furthermore, within any city or area, the standard of a child’s education can differ significantly from neighborhood to neighborhood.
