The former B Fresh Grocery Store at 214 Harvard Ave. has earned a permit worth $1,126,500 to be converted into a CVS. An interior fit-out and a new exterior entrance to the store from the back parking lot are part of the project. The approximately 13,000 square foot Allston property was built in 2004.

I haven’t seen it posted online yet, so it’s not exactly a secret. When I went into the store the other day, several employees informed me that the store would be closing at the end of December. They don’t know why, but it’s most likely because Stop & Shop bought them and declined to accept a deal that would provide them with the same starting pay and benefits as S&S workers. Despite working for the same organization, the strike that occurred a few months ago had no effect on Bfresh, and their employees received no benefits from the negotiations. I’m not a huge fan of the store (it’s gone downhill because it got rid of its bakery, in my opinion,) and I’m certainly not a fan of Stop & Shop, but man, was it convenient to have it on Harvard Ave. Edit: I should’ve written “integrate into Stop & Shop,” not “be absorbed by Stop & Shop,” since I knew they were both owned by the same parent company (Ahold Delhaize.) a total of 20 comments 79 percent upvoted by sharesavehidereport This discussion has been closed. According to a tweet from @Emjay1028, Allston’s bfresh market is closing, with the Harvard Avenue market set to close on December 28 or when stocks run out. After it closes, the only remaining site will be in Somerville’s Davis Square area, as a third location in Brighton closed in late 2017.
bfresh is a small-store concept that is connected to the Stop & Shop supermarket chain, all of which are owned by the Dutch food retailer Ahold Delhaize. (Fresh Formats LLC, based in Canton, is the owner of the bfresh brand.)
