Divide the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers to get the student/teacher ratio. Please keep in mind that a lower student-to-teacher ratio does not always imply a smaller class size. Schools occasionally employ part-time teachers, and some teachers are hired for specialized teaching with limited class sizes. The student-to-teacher ratio is influenced by these and other factors. Many parents have inquired about purchasing school supplies for the upcoming school year. Each teacher may have his or her own wish list. These lists are available on some teachers’ class pages, and can be found under “Staff” on the school website. The day before school begins, classroom assignments will be posted. There are never any mandatory school supplies, but if you want to stock up during the summer sales, students usually need simple things like paper, pencils, crayons, and other similar items, which can also be used at home for homework if they aren’t required in class.
Backpacks are not needed for kindergarten students. All Smith students will receive take-home folders for essential papers (new this year) with their first-day packets on the first day of classes.
Thanks to Measure Q, Smith Elementary is getting a major facelift! You may have noted the work in progress… By the end of summer 2019, half of the permanent classrooms will be fully modernized, and the remaining classrooms will be completed in the summer of 2020. A brand new administration building as well as a library/media center will be constructed. Please be careful with parking problems during construction and stay tuned for more updates.
