Divide the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers to get the student/teacher ratio. Please keep in mind that a lower student-to-teacher ratio does not always imply a smaller class size. Schools occasionally employ part-time teachers, and some teachers are hired for specialized teaching with limited class sizes. The student-to-teacher ratio is determined by these and other factors. Pre-Kindergarten may not be included of the student/teacher ratio in private schools.

Though Agape Christian Academy was established in 2008, it has a four-year history. It all started with a small group of homeschooling moms and dads teaching our own kids. We were dissatisfied with the choices available in our community for providing a Protestant Christian education to our children. We agreed to take on the challenge on our own because we already had educational backgrounds. Many parents approached us over time, demanding that their children be taught as well. Our small group had grown to over 50 students by the beginning of 2008. Clearly, there was a greater need for Christian education than could be fulfilled in a homeschool environment.
We spent a lot of time in prayer this spring, seeking God’s help in meeting this need in our culture. That was the school’s true beginning. We started looking for a school location after following God’s lead. We purchased land and broke ground on our building in early summer after being unable to find an existing structure that met our needs. As the school prepared to formally accept the first students in the fall of 2008, the next few months were a whirlwind of activity. Rapid development, as with any company, raised challenges in our early years. The administration discovered how to adapt teaching methods to meet the demands of a formal school while retaining the characteristics that allowed students to excel in a homeschool environment. We learned when to adapt and when to stand firm based on input from our students’ parents. Most significantly, we gained a deeper understanding of who we are as an organization and formalized our policies to reflect this. We are now in our fifth year of service, and we are gradually expanding and making a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and their families.
