The tarantula is a type of arachnid that is typically not harmful to humans. However, with over 900 species known, one of them is bound to have a terrifying bite. However, the mere sight of a tarantula can terrify some people. On the other hand, these animals make great photographic subjects. If you can get close enough to a tarantula without flipping out, have a friend who is ‘brave’ enough to handle one, or just think tarantulas are cool, then these 21 frightening photos are for you. Just seeing an image of these hairy beasts may give you nightmares tonight, for the rest of us.

Tarantulas are a genus of large, hairy spiders that belong to the Theraphosidae family (technically, spiders possess setae, not true hairs[2]). Approximately 1,000 species have been described so far. [three] Although several other members of the same infraorder (Mygalomorphae) are generally referred to as “tarantulas” or “false tarantulas,” the name “tarantula” is usually reserved for members of the family Theraphosidae. In the exotic pet trade, some of the more common species have become popular. Urticating hairs are found on many New World animals kept as pets, which can irritate the skin and, in extreme cases, harm the eyes. [4] The tarantula, like all arthropods, is an invertebrate that relies on an exoskeleton to provide muscular support. [5] A tarantula’s body, like that of other Arachnida, is divided into two parts: the prosoma (or cephalothorax) and the opisthosoma (or abdomen). The pedicel, or pregenital somite, binds the prosoma and opisthosoma. The opisthosoma has a wide range of motion relative to the prosoma because of this waist-like connecting piece, which is actually part of the prosoma.

Whhen a tarantula meets its worst predator — a tarantula

Anyone who appreciates tarantulas or spiders is well aware of their majestic beauty. When you have your own pet tarantula, you will notice that they are not only beautiful animals, but that they also have their own personalities and do some very strange things once you get to know them and their habits! I was on a quest to take the best tarantula images I could once I got my chilean rose hair, and I certainly learned a lot along the way!
It’s only natural for a tarantula owner (or any other spider owner) to want to capture these incredible moments and record what it’s like to have such a rare and fascinating pet. There are plenty of pictures of cats and dogs, but what the world really needs is more accurate documentation and representations of what tarantulas and spiders are like in the wild, rather than the commonplace fear-mongering and misconceptions that people are raised with, which lead to full-blown phobias of these animals.
