Garth Brooks’ song “Friends in Low Places” is a country music song from the United States. It was released as the lead single from his album No Fences on August 6, 1990. The song spent four weeks at the top of the Hot Country Songs chart and was named Single of the Year by both the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association in 1990.
Earl Bud Lee and Dewayne Blackwell wrote the song “Friends in Low Places” in 1989. Brooks had recorded the song as a demo shortly before the release of his self-titled debut album, when he was still a relatively unknown musician. Brooks was so taken by the song that he released an official version the next year.
Earl Bud Lee, one of the song’s co-writers, claims that the song’s concept came to him when he and some songwriting friends were having lunch at Tavern on the Row, a renowned Nashville eatery.
Lee realized he had forgotten his money when the check arrived. When asked how he intended to pay for the meal, he replied, “Don’t be bothered. I have friends who are down on their luck. I’m acquainted with the chef.” Lee and his songwriting partner Dewayne Blackwell understood the promise of the line “mates in low places,” but they didn’t move on it right away. [two]

Since I have low-ranking mates. I’ll be great because I’m not big on social graces and the bourbon drowns my blues and the beer chases them away. I’m going to go down to the oasis. Yeah, I’ve got some shady associates.
3rd Verse: I think I was wrong, I just don’t belong But then, I’ve been there before, and everything’s fine I’ll just say goodnight and introduce myself to the door I didn’t mean to make a big fuss I didn’t mean to cause a big fuss Wait until I’m done with this bottle. Then I’ll return to the bar, sweet little girl. You’re just welcome to kiss my arse.
When you’re out honky tonkin’ with your Justin ropers and Stetson 5X felt at the local watering hole, “Friends in Low Places” is perfect. When it comes to growing your company, however, having friends in high places pays off.

Brian goes on to say that he and Tyler look up to Garth for advice on how to manage their jobs as well as their personal lives. Unfortunately, they were unable to record the song with Garth in the studio.
“I think we were all so busy,” Tyler says, “that we did it separately and whenever we could get in the studio.” As a result, we’re looking forward to hearing the mix. It hasn’t even reached us yet. We’re excited to see how it comes together.”
