Beginning Monday, May 18, the Port Authority of Allegheny County will return many bus routes to their daily weekday schedules. Although the Port Authority’s Service Development team tracks ridership levels, an additional 32 routes, including all three light rail lines, will run on reduced service schedules. Wherever possible, adjustments will be made to satisfy ridership.
The Port Authority’s steps and precautions to combat the virus’ spread, such as frequent disinfection of vehicles and stations, requiring passengers to wear masks when on board vehicles and visiting the Downtown Service Center, and rear-door boarding, will continue until further notice.
“This plan will enable us to resume regular service in a safe and responsible manner while ensuring that our riders and employees feel safe, relaxed, and protected,” said Port Authority CEO Katharine Kelleman.
“The hardworking men and women of ATU Local 85 have been honored to play such a vital role in ensuring that communities across Allegheny County have access to essential services during the red phase, and we will continue to ensure our region’s success during the yellow phase,” said Steve Palonis, President/Business Agent of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 85, whose union represents more than 2,000 members.
